Job purpose:
We are looking for a creative and news-aware Digital Content Specialist to support our communications channels and campaigns as part of the Lumos Public Engagement team. Based in the New York City office, you’ll be comfortable working in both a local and international context with marketing and communications colleagues in the London HQ and the team in New York. Whether it’s creating compelling visuals including videos, GIFs and graphics, or writing editorial to drive fundraising activity and support our advocacy objectives, you’ll be a self-starter who can produce content on a daily basis for the various Lumos channels.
Job objectives:
Produce, write and edit compelling, shareable online content for earned and owned channels.
Create short video explainers, graphics, GIFs and other content to place on our website and social channels to engage our audiences.
Collaborate with colleagues to create a portfolio of visual and written content for 2019, which drives fundraising and advocacy goals.
Responsible for monitoring, responding to and creating proactive social media assets for the US and Latin America and the Caribbean regions.
Collate social media analytics and create reports to improve performance.
Proactively plan and schedule social media content using Hootsuite.
Ensure the highest quality editorial, visual and design output across Lumos online and offline channels, in line with our brand and style guidelines.
Support colleagues by gathering content at events and helping them prepare content for communications opportunities.
Feed into the daily news agenda from the region, keeping on top of stories that impact Lumos’ mission.
Support the management the story-gathering hub, gathering and uploading content and tagging metadata.
Offer general communications support to colleagues in the New York office and the London office, as and when required.
Scope:
Working as part of a dual-location Marketing and Communications team, the role will lead on the planning, writing, creation and scheduling of digital and social media content for the US and Latin America and the Caribbean region.
A flexible and proactive attitude is a must to develop and post a wide variety of visual and written content to raise the profile of Lumos and deliver online fundraising and advocacy campaigns.
Person specification:
Skills:
Ability to write, proof-read and edit high-quality content.
Demonstrable experience in producing - or managing the production of - digital assets such as GIFs, short videos and graphics.
Demonstrable experience managing upwards and with a wide range of stakeholders
A proactive self-starter, happy to pitch ideas and drive them forward to completion.
Ability to hit deadlines and manage competing priorities.
Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills are vital, along with a talent for clear communication.
Ability to work both using own initiative and collaboratively as part of a team.
An active interest in the news agenda.
Knowledge & experience:
Essential
Excellent editorial skills, demonstrable through work experience, including editing, writing, proofreading and editorial production.
Ability to manage multiple communications projects simultaneously and juggle deadlines under pressure.
Exceptional attention to detail and ability to advise internal stakeholders on editorial and audio-visual best practise.
Comfortable with compiling social media analytics and setting targets.
Experience of working in a fast-paced environment where deadlines and priorities shift all the time.
CMS and Hootsuite experience.
Desirable
Proficient with Google Analytics, Pardot and Adobe Creative Suite.
Language skills – particularly Spanish and French.
Experience of managing agencies and freelancers.
