Working for Lumos
Evaluation and Research Officer
This vacancy has now expired, and is not accepting any new applications. p>
Lumos is an international non-governmental, non-profit organisation founded by J.K. Rowling. Our vision is of a world where all children have the opportunity to grow up and thrive in loving, nurturing, protective families. We believe that children belong in families not orphanages and we aim to achieve our vision by 2050. We will do this by casting light onto the causes of institutionalisation and producing high-quality, compelling evidence of our long term, sustainable solutions.
By developing documentation, guidance and training materials, you’ll ensure that the framework can be implemented effectively and that colleagues have the confidence to use data and evidence in their everyday work. Where required, you’ll also provide tailored approaches for local contexts, populations and systems, supporting research and technical specialists in our regional hubs and country programmes with data collection methods and instruments.
Substantial experience of leading evaluation and research from study design through to analysis and reporting is essential. You must have a deep understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods, with the expertise to adapt your skills and delivery for a wide range of audiences, conveying results clearly, accurately and with impact. Knowledge of a range of analysis software is important – NVIVO, SPSS, STATA or R. Ideally, you’ll also have experience of more advanced research techniques, such as data visualisation, economic appraisal, GIS mapping and data science. Experience of international development, social work or children’s rights is a real advantage.

Right to Work:
If you do not already have the right to work in the UK, please think carefully before applying. This is because even if the role is sufficiently skilled to qualify for sponsorship, we will be unable to sponsor you if there is a suitably qualified settled worker available to fill the role (this is known as the ‘resident labour market test’) unless you are currently in the UK and your immigration status and qualifications mean that the resident labour market test will not apply in your case.
